Premier League headlines as Manchester United stand firm after Cristiano Ronaldo reveals desire to leave Old Trafford

Less than a year after returning to Old Trafford, superstar forward Cristiano Ronaldo wants to leave Manchester United. The Times reported on Saturday the 37-year-old forward is keen on leaving the north-west this summer amid transfer uncertainty at Old Trafford.

While the likes of Manchester City, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur have all strengthened their squads with high quality additions, Manchester United have yet to make a single summer signing so far. Now in the twilight of his career, Ronaldo is keen to play Champions League football and win as many trophies as possible, something which he does not believe Manchester United can offer him.

However, it is understood Manchester United do not want to sell Ronaldo and are unwilling to entertain any offers from Premier League rivals. Recently, new Chelsea owner Todd Boehly met Ronaldo's agent Jorge Mendes, with a potential move to the Blues said to be among the topics of discussion.

While Manchester United won't want to strengthen a direct rival, they may be forced to sell the star forward if the swirling news around his future becomes a hinderance to Erik ten Hag's preparations to the upcoming Premier League campaign.

Three Premier League teams have entered the race for out of contract midfielder Jesse Lingard. While West Ham United were said to be favourites to land Lingard, who departed Manchester United this summer, Tottenham Hotspur, Everton and Newcastle United are all said to be keen on signing the 29-year-old.

The Daily Mirror reports the trio all have interest in Lingard, who played a bit part role at Old Trafford last term. West Ham have already made a contract approach to the England
