Poya Asbaghi speaks out over Barnsley’s playing squad

Barnsley have struggled to get going this season and find themselves firmly entrenched in a battle to avoid the drop back down to League One this season.

Even with Poya Asbaghi now at the helm, the club just haven’t been able to turn their fortunes around. They have managed to strengthen somewhat in the January window though and the boss has revealed to The Yorkshire Post that the players he currently has at his disposal are ‘ready to stay here.’

The Tykes are currently rock-bottom of the division, even though Derby have had a massive 21 points deducted from them. It goes to show just how bad the situation has been at Oakwell so far this year and you wouldn’t be blaming many of the club’s players for potentially eyeing the exit door.

However, despite their ongoing issues and a battle against the drop, Asbaghi has revealed that not one player at Oakwell doesn’t want to be there – and that if they did, he would have sold them on.

Since taking over, Asbaghi would have hoped for a lot more of a positive reaction from his side. Since taking over in November though, the manager has rarely been on the winning side and, in fact, it was the 3rd November that brought the Tykes last league victory. It means that the club have gone three months without a win in the Championship.

Asbaghi though will be hoping to turn it around in the second half of the season after bringing in some more players and admitted to The Yorkshire Post that the squad he currently has are all happy to be at Oakwell.
