Powerboat racing-Goalkeeper Courtois dives into E1 electric series as team co-owner
April 2 : Real Madrid and Belgium goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois is diving into the E1 electric powerboat championship as the latest big sporting name to become a team co-owner in the Saudi-backed series.
The 33-year-old, a co-founder of sports investment platform NXTPLAY Capital, is teaming up with Sierra Racing Club's Team Sierra.
Other team owners include tennis great Rafa Nadal, the NBA's LeBron James, seven-times NFL Super Bowl champion Tom Brady and actor Will Smith.
The series races on four continents with locations including Italy's Lake Como, Monaco, the Angolan capital Luanda, Miami and the Bahamas.
"Sierra Racing Club represents exactly the profile NXTPLAY looks for in a sports asset," said Courtois in a statement. "A team with a strong identity, technical ambition, and real potential to become one of the reference names in the championship."
