Huddersfield Town will finish either third or fourth in the Championship this season, meaning they will face the side finishing either sixth or fifth in the play-off semi-finals. Terriers fans will therefore be keeping a watchful eye on how their potential opponents fare in this final week of the season, starting with Luton Town’s trip to Fulham for Monday’s teatime kick off.
As the league table stands at the moment, Town would face Nathan Jones’ side in the play-offs – but any defeat against the league leaders would push Luton down to sixth, beneath Sheffield United on goal difference, and like the Blades leave them vulnerable to being displaced from the top six by Middlesbrough on the final day.
Even just a point against Fulham would be huge for Luton, then, but they have not been helped by an injury crisis that now extends to their goalkeepers too. Hull City’s Matt Ingram has arrived on an initial seven-day emergency loan after James Shea suffered a serious knee injury that left Jones without a recognised senior goalkeeper under EFL criteria.
Simon Sluga left to join Bulgarian champions Ludogorets in January with Jed Steer arriving on loan from Aston Villa as cover, but the former Terriers stopper has also been ruled out with an Achilles injury suffered in Luton’s FA Cup defeat to Chelsea in March. Ingram is therefore Luton’s second emergency goalkeeper signing of the season with West Bromwich Albion’s Alex Palmer coming in for a week after Steer’s injury.
