Portsmouth man makes claim over future talks

Portsmouth loanee Callum Johnson has told the Blackpool Gazette that he would be willing to push back any talks with the club over his future until the end of the season.

The 25-year-old made the move to Fleetwood Town on loan back in August of last year and has become a regular at the Highbury Stadium.

Johnson has since made 28 appearances for the Cod Army and also has four goals to his name so far this term in what has been an impressive campaign for the defender.

Now the player has admitted that he would be willing to push back any talks with Pompey over his future till the end of the season as he aims to remain focused on the task of helping Fleetwood to stay in Sky Bet League One:

“If anyone did (get in contact), I would push that until the end of the season. My priority is Fleetwood.”

Johnson’s contract with Pompey is due to expire come the end of the current season, which means that he could be available for nothing in a few months time.

The defender has made 48 appearances for the South Coast outfit.

The Verdict

It is another difficult situation for Pompey to be in as Johnson is yet another player that is due to be out of contract come the end of the season.

The list of players that have deals expiring at Fratton Park is longer than someone’s arm, so there is a lot of business to sort out in the summer.

It appears Danny Cowley is willing to leave Johnson to his old devices and overall a talk about the player’s future on the South Coast would probably be best left till the end of the campaign.

It is good to see that Johnson himself is focused on the task of helping Fleetwood rather than anything else.
