Portimao Moto2 test: Acosta doubles up as preseason concludes
Red Bull KTM Ajo’s Pedro Acosta made it two in a row as he continued his run at the top of the Moto2 Portimao test times on Sunday.
Building on his Saturday success, a 1’41.907 from the first of the final day’s three sessions was enough to lock out the combined standings for the Spaniard, SpeedUp’s Fermin Aldeguer the only other rider to slip under the 1’42 barrier as testing drew to a close.
Pons rider Aron Canet continued his front-running form from Portugal as he closed out the top three less than two tenths adrift of his countryman, the leading trio sitting out of the closing session with their preparations clearly in the bag.
Idemitsu Honda’s Somkiat Chantra set the fourth fastest charge on Sunday morning while Britain’s Sam Lowes pushed his Elf Marc VDS to fifth in the lunchtime run. Teammate Tony Arbolino was just 0.009s shy of the number 22’s 1’42.281 best as the day played out, with the duo having taken charge of the subdued final outing.
Bo Bendsneyder and Barry Baltus sat seventh and eighth on their respective Pertamina SAG and Fieten Olie Kalex while former GasGas Aspar teammates Jake Dixon and Albert Arenas - the latter now at Red Bull KTM - rounding out the top ten.
