Moto2 Argentina: New Dad Jake Dixon celebrates new daughter with podium

Jake Dixon has dedicated his latest podium result in the Moto2 World Championship to his new baby daughter, who was born just hours before stepped onto the rostrum at Termas de Rio Hondo.

Having spent the weekend combining on track duties with a nervous wait for news of the latest member of the Dixon ‘team’, the GasGas Aspar capped off a Sunday to remember by holding his nerve for a seventh career Moto2 podium.

Starting from the second row in fourth, Dixon slithered his way into an early lead amid tricky wet conditions, before ceding the advantage to Alonso Lopez on the third lap.

Though overhauled too by eventual winner Tony Arbolino on the Marc VDS Kalex, Dixon stayed among the lead pack but would eventually settle for third.

While it means his wait for a first win goes on, the result consolidates his solid start to the year ahead of round three at Circuit of The Americas, scene of his first rostrum twelve months ago.

“The last 24 hours have been a blur! I’ve been ill, I want to say how much I love my wife and new daughter and then that was a difficult race!

“I struggled to see 8 laps from the end and had to lift up my visor in places. I want to thank the team: to get a podium here, as well as a sixth position, is great to start the season.”
