Popular Stockport bar issues ‘warning’ to customers following bathroom discovery

The owners of a popular bar and restaurant in Stockport have been forced to issue a ‘warning’ to customers after making a discovery in the venue’s bathroom.

This Godless Place, on Bridge Street in the town centre, opened two years ago in the former Union Bank of Manchester building and utilised its old bank vaults and historic brick walls to create a unique space that has been loved by locals since.

Run by Martin Healy, who is also behind independent Stockport bar The Good Rebel, the venue's social media page featured an update including some ‘sage words of advice’ following an incident in its bathroom.

Posting on Facebook, staff at This Godless Place said there had been a recent incident where a customer had dropped a glass drink into one of the toilets, before attempting to flush it away. Staff at the bar said they had ‘weeks and weeks of issues’ with the bathroom, leading to spending ‘hundreds and hundreds of pounds’ on plumbers to figure out the reason for the problems.

The post said: “If you ever go to a bar or a restaurant or a pub and you need the toilet we have some sage words of advice for you. 1.) Don’t bring your drink with you to the toilet, leave it with friends or, if you have no friends, with the bar staff, they will gladly keep it safe for your companionless soul behind the bar.

“2.) If you decide to ignore point 1, don’t drop your drink and smash it into the toilet bowl. 3.) If you decide to ignore points 1 and 2, don’t try and be clever and flush said broken shards of glass down the toilet. Please just let a member of staff know so we can pick it out of your puddle of ****. 4.) Always wash your hands
