Police issue warning as 80,000 flock to Creamfields Festival for huge four-day event

Police have issued a drugs warning as 80,000 fans flock to the Creamfields Festival for the Bank Holiday weekend.

Thousands are expected to attend the annual event, which takes place in Daresbury from Thursday (August 22) to Monday (August 25).

Pre-event checks carried out by Cheshire Police have already led to the seizure of a 'substantial quantity of Class C drugs, nitrous oxide and Class A and B drugs'.

The force said officers will be supporting event security staff and providing a 'visible presence' to prevent incidents of crime and disorder breaking out at the major event. Further searches of the site area will also continue throughout the weekend.

Cheshire Constabulary is also supporting Creamfields with their plans to deter trespassing onto the festival site and will be enforcing trespassing laws and breaches of security.

The force has also now issued a drugs warning to those considering taking illegal substances into the event, saying those caught out 'will be prosecuted'. Amnesty bins for prohibited items have been put in place at entrance points.

Superintendent Sarah Heath, who is overseeing the policing operation for the event, said: “As with previous years, a great deal of time and effort has gone into planning for this event to ensure that we are as prepared as possible for what is the biggest event that we help to police in Cheshire.

“Our main aim is to ensure the safety of festival goers and support the local community. I know that most people who will attend will enjoy the event responsibly.
