Popular Manchester cafe in green spot popular with walkers claim they have been served notice by landlord

A cafe situated in a "stunning" green valley in Greater Manchester has announced that it is closing forever, after being served notice by its landlord. Buckhurst Lodgeside in the Cheesden Valley, Bury, has served its last hot drink to a cold walker.

The cafe opened in 2020, as the lockdown brainchild of Donna McHugh, who noticed all of the people walking past the spot and decided to set up shop in a pop-up timber cabin. Before she knew it, the spot to grab a coffee and a bite to eat was drawing people back to the green post-industrial space.

But now, according to a statement put out by Buckhurst Lodgeside, the popular wooden cabin has closed with immediate effect, after being served notice by their landlord. The statement from Donna reads: "I write this with a heavy and sad heart that this decision has had to be made final but unfortunately I have very sad news. "

Donna continued: "I have been served notice to quit by my landlord and have to close Buckhurst Lodgeside. It has been a pleasure and privilege to meet all my customers and help you enjoy your trips to our lovely countryside.

"Thank you so much to each and everyone for your support. So sorry we will be no more with immediate effect."

Reacting to the closure on social media, many of the people that have made use of the cafe while exploring the Cheesden Valley expressed sadness at its loss. Hundreds of people commented to thank Donna for running the lodge.

Kelly said: "This is so unfair. Oh Donna I'm so sorry, thank you for bringing us so many special memories during some very difficult times."

Donna said: "I’m so sad to hear this, you should be proud of a very special and much loved place that
