Pontardawe fire live updates as residents told to keep windows and doors shut

Fire crews are currently dealing with an industrial fire at a plastics recycling plant in Pontardawe.

Police and several fire engines have been called to the scene, in Pontardawe Road, on Monday afternoon. Motorists have been told to avoid the area and local residents have been advised to keep their windows and doors shut.

A spokesman for South Wales Police said: “South Wales Fire and Rescue officers have attended the scene of an incident at Birch Farm Plastic Collection, Pontardawe They are advising all local residents to keep doors and windows closed.”

A spokesman for Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service added: “Several Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service crews are currently attending an industrial fire on Pontardawe Road in Pontardawe. Please avoid the area and find alternative routes for your journey. Residents are advised to keep doors and windows closed.”
