Police win IGP National Open Kickboxing Championship

The Nigeria Police machine team, at the weekend, won the inaugural Inspector General of Police (IGP) National Open Kickboxing Championship held at the Police College, Ikeja, Lagos.

The winners got seven gold, seven silver and one bronze medal to beat Delta State, with six gold and three silver medals to the second position. The third position went to Edo Black Scorpions that picked five gold, seven silver and five bronze medals.   Speaking at the end of the competition, Minister of Sports, Sunday Dare, commended the Inspector General of Police, Alkali Baba Usman, for sponsoring the championship.

Represented by Mrs. Nkana Mbora of the ministry’s Lagos Liaison office, the minister thanked the IGP for collaborating with the Kickboxing Federation of Nigeria (KFN) to organise the championship, adding that by the act, Usman has really proven himself as a true lover of sports hence, he should keep it up.   Encouraged by the large turnout of participants, the chairman of the Nigeria Police Kickboxing Association, ACP Abubakar Yakubu, thanked the IGP for giving members of the Force the platform to exhibit their talents by repositioning sports within the Force.

Over 150 kickboxers, drawn from across 18 states and 12 clubsides across the country, participated in the weeklong exercise held from May 23 to 28, 2022, KFN Secretary, Segun Fasesin, said.
