Police stumbled across more than they bargained for when they found two men hiding in a loft

Police stumbled across more than they bargained for after finding two men hiding in a loft at a house in Tameside.

Officers stormed the house in Dukinfield on Wednesday evening (September 11) and said it was 'clear people were staying in the property'.

They searched the house and found two men in the loft, along with a huge cannabis farm. Two men were arrested on suspicion of drug cultivation and were taken into custody to be interviewed.

Tameside Police said the cannabis plants and equipment were seized at the scene and later destroyed.

A GMP spokesperson said: "Yesterday evening (11 September 2024), officers uncovered a cannabis farm at a property in Dukinfield. Upon arrival it was clear a person or people were staying in the property.

"Following a search, officers located two males in the loft. The two males were arrested on for drug cultivation, and are currently in police custody awaiting interview. The cannabis plants and equipment have been seized and destroyed.

"As many of you know from recent incidents within Tameside, this type of farm set up has the potential to cause serious fires - due to the volume of electrical equipment involved.

"We urge anyone with information about cannabis farms within Tameside to contact your local Neighbourhood Policing Team via 101, online or Crimestoppers - if you wish to remain anonymous."
