Police still searching for suspect over death of 16-year-old on stolen bike

A suspect linked to the death of 16-year-old Dean Barnes is still being search for, a detective told a court today (June 2). Dean died after crashing while riding a stolen motorbike on January 24 this year.

The smash happened on Ainsdale Grove in Reddish, Stockport, with Dean, from Brinnington, dying at the scene of 'multiple injuries', an inquest at Manchester South Coroners Court, in Stockport, previously heard. At a pre-inquest review hearing at the same court today Detective Sergeant Leanne Banks provided an update to Coroner Chris Morris on Greater Manchester Police's investigation.

DS Banks told the court that police have been thoroughly investigating the incident and she said officers have made a lot of progress. She confirmed that a total of six arrests have been made, three warrants executed, forensic work carried out, and cash linked to three suspects seized.

Further details of the incident were not discussed at the hearing, only confirmation that the crash involved a stolen motorbike and a vehicle. Mr Morris described it as a "complex investigation despite the relatively contained set of circumstances," which the Detective Sergeant agreed with.

DS Banks added that "hundreds of hours" of body worn video footage has been reviewed with CCTV and various witness statements obtained. A forensic collision report from GMP's Serious Collision Unit (SCU) is set to be complete within six weeks.

A CPS case lawyer is involved with the case and both them at GMP are awaiting a full case file to be submitted before making any decisions on bringing death by dangerous driving charges
