Police release statement after Just Stop Oil protesters cause chaos at 'society wedding of the year'

A woman from Manchester was arrested following a Just Stop Oil protest at a high profile wedding attended by Prince William. Police said two women are in custody on suspicion of public order offences following an incident outside Chester Cathedral.

Cheshire Police said a 'coloured flare' was let off outside the cathedral this afternoon, following the wedding of the Duke of Westminster, Hugh Grosvenor, and Olivia Henson, which was attended by Prince William. Earlier Just Stop Oil, the climate change protest group, claimed responsibility. The force said a 69-year-old woman from Manchester and a 73-year-old woman from Suffolk were arrested.

A spokesman for Cheshire Police said: “Shortly after 1pm on Friday a coloured flare was released by two women, believed to be protesting on behalf of Just Stop Oil, on St Werberg Street, Chester. Officers were immediately on the scene and two women were quickly arrested on suspicion of public order offences.
