Manchester Airport issues warning to passengers arriving by car, taxi or minibus

Travellers jetting off from Manchester Airport have been issued a warning if they are arriving by road. Thousands of people will come through the doors of Manchester's three terminals to set off on their holidays today (September 4).

With September now here, it's a popular time for many sunseekers to get away at a cheaper price than during the school summer holidays. Many people will arrive at Manchester Airport by car, leaving their vehicle in one of the airport's designated car parks.

Others will arrive in taxis, buses or minibuses. But after a busy day on Greater Manchester's roads, Manchester Airport has issued a warning to anyone travelling on the road before they are due to jet off.

A spokesperson for Manchester Airport wrote on X: "There are a number of traffic issues on motorways that serve the airport this morning. Passengers due to travel are advised to check traffic information before they set off."

The warning comes after drivers faced long delays on the M60 this morning following a crash involving seven vehicles near Stockport. There have also been delays on the M56 in both directions between junctions three and five, near Manchester Airport.

Further afield, there are delays on the M56 eastbound near junction nine at Lymm, due to a vehicle having its tyre changed. Drivers have also been hit by delays on the M60 anticlockwise between junctions 17 at Prestwich and 15 at Swinton, following a broken down vehicle.
