Police issue update on investigation into sex attack at pub

A man who was arrested by police investigating a sexual assault at a pub in Stockport has been released under investigation, police have confirmed.

Officers were called to the Royal Oak pub in Edgeley at around 9.50pm on Saturday (August 19) to reports that a male was giving 'unwanted, physical attention' to women. A man was arrested and taken to custody on suspicion of sexual assault.

Police said they believed that five other women may had been assaulted. In an update issued today (August 23), a spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said the man arrested had been released under investigation.

Anyone with any information should contact officers. Previously, Detective Inspector Chris Aunins of the Stockport Division, said: "Even though we have the male in custody, we are extremely concerned that there could be a number of other women who may have been sexually assaulted.

"We are urging anyone who came into contact with this male at the Royal Oak last night, to please get in touch with us. We will listen to you and we will believe you."
