Police issue update amid rape investigation near Greater Manchester retail park

Police have issued an update following a suspected rape near to a Greater Manchester retail park. Officers were seen in attendance at Parsonage Way, in Leigh, near to Parsonage Retail Park yesterday morning (May 22).

A forensic tent was seen on the road with an area taped off. Greater Manchester Police stated it was called out in response to concerns for a woman's welfare at 6.10am.

Detectives investigating the incident believe the woman was raped. Officers arrested a man in his 40s at the scene, on suspicion of rape.

In an update issued this morning (Thursday), GMP confirmed that the suspect has since been bailed pending further enquiries. A force spokesperson added: "The victim is being supported by us and our partner agencies."
