Police issue update after man found dead in Manchester city centre

The death of a man in Manchester city centre following a 'concern for welfare report' is not being treated as suspicious, police have confirmed.

Police and paramedics were called to Jack Rosenthal Street at around 6.10am yesterday (Monday). Sadly, a man - aged in his 50s - was pronounced dead on the scene.

An investigation was launched as a cordon was put in place off First Street close to a number of bars and restaurants. A forensic tent was erected outside Starbucks and Bunny Jackson's.

In an update issued this morning, a spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police confirmed the man's death is not being treated as suspicious. A file will be passed to the coroner.

In a statement issued yesterday, a GMP spokesperson said: "At around 6.10am this morning (Monday 29 April 2024), we were called to reports of a concern for welfare of a man on Jack Rosenthal Street in the city centre.

"Despite the best efforts of the North West Ambulance Service, sadly, a man in his 50s was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigations are ongoing."
