Police issue update after man 'chases car with hedge trimmer' at petrol station
Police have made an arrest after footage circulated of a man chasing a car with a hedge trimmer at a petrol station in Salford.
Footage of the terrifying incident was shared widely on social media. It was filmed at the Shell petrol garage on Regent Road on Monday night (August 5).
The clip appeared to show a male running from the police station towards a van. He then grabbed the hedge trimmer and appeared to charge towards a car with the power tool in his hands.

The driver then sped away out of the forecourt, and back onto Regent Road, as the man appeared to shout towards them. In a statement issued this morning (August 7), GMP said a man has since been arrested in connection with the incident.
The man - aged in his 30s - was arrested last night on suspicion of affray. He remains in custody to be quizzed by detectives.
The force said enquiries into the incident are ongoing. In a statement, a GMP spokesperson said: "We were made aware of a video circulating on social media which showed a man approaching a vehicle in possession of a hedge trimmer on Monday evening (5 August 2024).
"Our officers acted swiftly and last night (Tuesday 6 August 2024), arrested a man in his 30s on suspicion of affray. He remains in police custody for questioning and enquiries are ongoing."
On Tuesday night, an unmarked police car was seen parked up at the petrol station, with officers reviewing the premises' CCTV footage. The social media clip was viewed 1.5 million times within a number of hours, with over 1,900 comments.
One viewer said: "Horrendous, inhumane behaviour" as another said: "Daylight, in a petrol station. Hope this got reported."
