Police issue statement after woman in her 20s found dead near playground in Blackpool

Two people have been arrested after a woman was found dead in Blackpool. Her body was discovered on Gorton Street in the seaside town at around this morning (Thursday).

Emergency services swarmed the area at around 9:30am after the alarm was raised over the woman, who was in her 20s. The street was cordoned off as police began their inquiries into the tragedy.

This evening, Lancashire Police confirmed two men in their 60s have been arrested on suspicion of supplying a controlled drug.

Pictures shared with The Blackpool Lead and reported by Lancs Live showed both police and paramedics in attendance at the street, which was taped off. Five police vehicles and two ambulances could been seen in the area at around 11am. There are, as yet unconfirmed, reports that the woman's body was found inside an old decommissioned ambulance.

A Lancs Police spokesperson said: Emergency services were called to Gorton Street, Blackpool at about 9.30am today (Thursday, August 15) following reports of a sudden death.

"Officers attended and sadly found the body of a woman in her 20s. The death is being treated as unexpected and is under investigation but is not deemed to be suspicious at this time. Two men both in their 60s have been arrested on suspicion of supplying a controlled drug. Enquiries are continuing."
