Police issue statement after trams disrupted following Manchester derby as man given by CPR by officers

Trams were disrupted last night as police officers gave a man CPR at the Cornbrook stop, Greater Manchester Police confirmed.

There were 'significant delays' on trams through the station yesterday evening (Sunday). Fans at the Manchester Derby at Old Trafford were faced with disruption on the Metrolink as they travelled home from the match.

Metrolink said that due a 'medical emergency', all 'south side' stations on the network were affected. In a post on social media last night, police confirmed gave a man CPR after being made aware of an 'ongoing medical episode' on board a tram at Cornbrook.

A defibrillator was used and the person was taken to hospital. Police said he remains there 'under observation'.

Officers thanked passengers for their patience as the incident was dealt with last night. A post on the GMP Trafford South Facebook page at around 11.30pm said: "#TfGM #Travelsafe #GMPTransportunit. Football fans attending the Manchester Derby this evening (Sunday 29th October) will likely have experienced significant delays on the trams through Cornbrook after the match.

"Whilst on the platform supporting the safe travel home of spectators, officers from GMP Transport Unit have been made aware of an ongoing medical episode on board one of the vehicles. The medical incident required the quick intervention from our officers where CPR was commenced and an AED (defibrillator) was used.
