Police investigating Kurt Zouma animal abuse as adidas issue statement on West Ham defender
West Ham defender Kurt Zouma is the subject of police enquiries after a video surfaced of him kicking and slapping his pet cat.
Surrey police have confirmed ‘enquiries are underway’ following an ‘allegation in relation to an animal being abused’ and they are now working with the RSPCA with a view to launching a joint investigation.
The shockingfootage shows Zouma drop-kicking, chasing and slapping his pet Bengal.
A statement from Surrey Police to the Evening Standard read: ‘Enquiries are underway after we received an allegation earlier today (February 8), in relation to an animal being abused at an address in north Surrey.
‘The allegations were received after a video emerged over the weekend showing a cat being ill-treated.
‘We are currently liaising with the RSPCA with a view to carrying out a joint investigation into the matter. Enquiries remain ongoing and we will provide further updates in due course.’
The police statement comes as Zouma’s kit provider adidas confirmed they’ve also launched their own internal investigation.
The manufacturer said in a statement: ‘We are aware of a deeply upsetting video circulating online. No animal should be subject to cruel and unwarranted abuse, and we are investigating the incident internally.’
Zouma has publicly apologised for his behaviour and his club have also condemned his actions, but it remains to be seen if the Hammers punish him.
‘I want to say how deeply sorry I am to anyone who was upset by the video,’ said Zouma.
‘I would like to assure everyone that our two cats are perfectly fine and healthy.
