Lions sign Canadian kicker Whyte

The BC Lions have signed Canadian placekicker Sean Whyte, it was announced Tuesday.

The 36-year-old returns to the Lions after originally signing as a territorial exemption in 2007. Whyte spent his first two CFL seasons in 2009 and 2010 with the Lions before a four-year stint with the Montreal Alouettes and a six-year run with the Edmonton Elks.

Whyte appeared in 14 last last season for the Elks, making 28 of 32 kicks. For his career, the White Rock, B.C., native is 382 of 441.

“It’s an honour to have my career come full circle with the Lions,” said Whyte in a news release.

“With this great team being put together by Neil McEvoy and coach Rick, that makes it even more exciting to hit the ground running in 2022.”
