Police cordon off A6 after 'more than 20 windows smashed' at building near Stockport College

'More than 20 windows were smashed' at a building near to Stockport College in an 'anti-social behaviour incident'.

Police were called to the scene of the incident on the A6 Wellington Road South earlier this afternoon (Tuesday). A stretch of the road was cordoned off near to the main college campus.

Tactical Aid Unit officers were pictured on the scene. Pictures show a derelict building with 'at least 20' windows smashed or partly shattered.

Glass was reportedly thrown onto the main road during the incident. It has not yet been confirmed whether any arrests have been made.

A stretch of the road remains closed off near the junction with Union Street while a clean-up is carried out. Some Stagecoach bus services are being diverted away from the area.

In a statement, a Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: "Police are responding to an ongoing anti-social behaviour incident on Wellington Road South in Stockport this afternoon (Tuesday, September 26, 2023). The A6 is currently closed and a number of our officers are on the scene."

In a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, Stagecoach said: "Routes 192/358/378/378/383. Diversion in both directions via Greek Street, Shaw Heath and Longshut Lane.

"This is due to a Police incident on A6 outside Stockport College. Sorry if this is affecting your journey with us today."
