Police confirm violent knife brawl is not related to fatal shooting metres away in Moss Side

Police have confirmed that a violent knife brawl that broke out just metres away from where a young man was fatally shot on Claremont Road is not related. It had initially been reported there had been a group of males fighting on Roseberry Street at 2.52am, in which two males sustained stab wounds.

Earlier on Monday morning, shortly after 12am, a 20-year-old man was shot in the street and later died in hospital. It has since transpired there were two further assaults that saw two males hospitalised outside of the Moss Side area. Police have confirmed that none of these separate incidents are related to the fatal shooting.

The murder of the young man followed on from a weekend of celebrations at the Caribbean Carnival. Police and local councillors have called on the community to come forward with any information they have as enquiries into the murder continue.

As well as the knife brawl on Roseberry Street, another man was taken to Manchester Royal Infirmary after a domestic assault as one further male was taken to Salford Royal Hospital following an assault in the same evening. However all these incidents are unrelated to each other.

Detective Superintendent David Meeney said: “Of the four assaults that were reported whereby males have received stab injuries, it has now been established that these are three unrelated incidents.

"Two incidents took place outside of the Moss Side area and are subsequently being investigated by our colleagues on other districts and one incident took place on Roseberry Street, Moss Side. Fortunately, all those who suffered injuries in relation to these incidents have been released from hospital.
