Police appeal after man suffers head injuries in 'suspected assault' at Salford park

Witnesses are being urged to come forward after a suspected assault in a Salford park. A man in his 40s was taken to hospital from Clarendon Park yesterday (February 14).

North West Ambulance Service had responded to concerns for the welfare of a man at around 11am. Paramedics alerted Greater Manchester Police, who taped off a footpath leading to the park from West High Street yesterday and is continuing its investigation into the circumstances.

The man is currently in a stable condition after suffering head injuries, GMP says. Salford CID now wants to hear from witnesses who may have seen what happened, anyone with have dashcam or doorbell footage, and other from residents in the area.

Detective Inspector Mike Sharples, of GMP’s Salford district, said: “Our officers in Salford are working tirelessly to understand the series of events after a man in his 40s was potentially assaulted in Clarendon Park. The victim is being supported by our officers and enquiries are still ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding this incident.

“I would urge members of the public who live around this area who saw something or saw anything suspicious around 11am on this day to please contact GMP directly and report this to us. Any information you may have no matter how small it may seem may bring us one step closer to establishing exactly what happened.”

A woman living close to the scene told the Manchester Evening News she called for an ambulance after spotting the man with a 'really nasty cut' to his temple. She said he was 'conscious but incoherent'.

"It looked like he’d been whacked really hard," she said. "He wasn’t in a
