Police and Crime Commissioner Live results: First result announced in Gwent

Counting is under way in the elections for the police and crime commissioner roles in Wales. There will be four commissioners elected in the police areas of Wales - South Wales Police, Gwent Police, North Wales Police and Dyfed Powys.

The results are expected to be declared on Friday afternoon (May 3). The first to call was Gwent where Labour candidate Jane Mudd won with a 41.67% majority.

Turnout figures announced so far show that 17.19% of the electorate voted in north Wales, and 15.63% in Gwent and 17.2% in Pembrokeshire.

The role of a PCC is to make sure that the local police force in their area is meeting the needs of the community, as well as cutting crime and delivering an effective and efficient service.

They are elected by the public to hold chief constables and the police force to account on their behalf. The South Wales PCC is paid £86,700 and serve a four-year term.
