Plymouth Argyle apologise over cancellation of Truro City pre-season game

Plymouth Argyle director of football Neil Dewsnip has issued an apology to Truro City after the cancellation of the pre-season game between the two clubs.

The fixture was scheduled to be played at Bolitho Park, Manadon, on Tuesday, July 26 but the League One club said in a statement that due to a number of unforeseen factors they could not field an appropriate team.

It means Argyle's trip to National League club Yeovil Town on Saturday will be their final pre-season match before the League One campaign kicks off against Barnsley at Home Park on July 30.

In their statement, Argyle said: "Unfortunately, a number of unforeseen factors - including player injuries, time management of players returning from injury, and the under-18 squad in Northern Ireland at the Super Cup means that we could not field an appropriate team for the fixture."

Dewsnip was quoted as saying: “It’s vital for us that the players are in the best shape as possible ahead of our Sky Bet League One opener with Barnsley next Saturday, and therefore we had to make this difficult decision.

"Truro City are an important part of our pre-season schedule and we look forward to playing them again in the near future. We’re really sorry to have to cancel this fixture and apologise sincerely to Truro for the inconvenience.“

It had been thought Argyle left wing-back Conor Grant could make his comeback from a minor groin operation by playing some of the game against Truro.

Any prepaid tickets will be fully refunded by the Truro City ticket office. The White Tigers will now travel to Willand Rovers next Tuesday before hosting Torquay United at Bolitho Park on July 30.
