Plans for £140million landmark building which could create 1,400 jobs revealed

Proposals have been created for a £140m office development in Manchester city centre which could create around 1,400 jobs.

HBD is behind the proposals for scheme, entitled Colloco, which are set to be submitted to Manchester City Council for consideration.

If approved, a 16-storey building with 200,000 sq ft of space would be constructed on the corner of New Quay Street and Gartside Street in the St John's district.

The site was formerly home to the LTE Group’s Manchester College before it relocated to its new campus last year.

Colloco would comprise flexible workspace across all levels as well as a roof pavilion which would feature breakout and events space and access to a landscaped garden terrace with views across the city.

HBD is midway through the development of Island, a 100,000 sq ft office scheme on John Dalton Street in Manchester.

Adam Brady, executive director at HBD, said: "We’re very proud to be bringing forward Colloco, which will provide a future facing workspace solution in the post-Covid era.

"We wanted to create a building that provides a positive impact to Manchester’s thriving community but one which also meets the needs of a modern and progressive work culture. Colloco is a completely different prospect to the sterile and corporate offices of yesteryear."

The project would also see 850 construction jobs created each year during the construction phase, if permission is granted.

The project team includes Arcadis, EPR Architects, Asteer Planning, Curtins, Hoare Lea and Ramboll.
