Pirates' Ofori yearns for positive result in Confed final: 'No one remembers finalists'

Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Richard Ofori is a realist.

He is aware of the situation the club finds itself in this week.

The Buccaneers jet off to Nigeria on Wednesday, hoping to return to South African shores with silverware.

Pirates will lock horns against Moroccan side RS Berkane on Friday in the CAF Confederation Cup final at Godswill Akpabio International Stadium (kick-off is at 21:00 SA time).

Speaking to the media ahead of their departure, Ofori sounded to his Pirates team-mates that a loser in a fight of two is rarely remembered. 

"We always talk about this cup because we've come a long way. It wasn't easy," Ofori said as quoted by SABC.

"We are not talking about just being part of the final. We need to go out there and actually win the tournament.

"No one remembers finalists."

Ofori continues: "The only time people remember is next year when they are showing the cup final, and the only thing they remember is that 'this is the Pirates team we played in the final.'

"The only time people will remember you is when you've made history, which is to win the trophy. And we all know about that, and as players, we all talk about it."

The Soweto giants have endured a tough season, struggling to remain consistent, which has seen the side get knocked out of the MTN8 and Nedbank Cup.

Meanwhile, they might not be able to play in Africa again next season as they need to win the Confederation Cup on Friday.
