Four weeks an 'inordinate' wait for Kerry's quarter-final - Jack O'Connor

Kerry boss Jack O'Connor admitted he was wary of his side’s upcoming layoff after their facile Munster SFC final win over Limerick.

The favourites for Sam Maguire had 23 points to spare over their opponents in Killarney but must now cool their heels for four weeks ahead of an All-Ireland quarter-final.

"It’s a concern," O’Connor told RTÉ Sport. "Four weeks is an inordinate amount of time to have between matches. We’ll have to make sure we manage it properly.

"That’s why the league is such a great competition. You have games week on week and the odd time two weeks between matches."

O’Connor declared himself "happy enough" with Kerry’s dominant win, achieved despite a slow start. They led by just three points (0-05 to 0-02) after 20 minutes before cutting loose to post 1-28.

"We kicked good scores, particularly in the second half, we kicked 1-16 and only one wide," he said.

"I though early on we were wasteful, especially in the first 10 minutes. We had eight or so attacks and only got three scores.

"We probably did [miss some goal chances] but happy enough. We scored enough points to make up for that.

"Very happy with the second half but obviously bigger tests ahead.

"We set our stall to be as good and professional every day we go out and the opposition is almost incidental then if you have your own targets.

"We’re happy enough with the way we went about our business."

O'Connor confirmed that star forward David Clifford should be available for the quarter-final after missing today’s game.

"He picked up a knock in the Cork game and we thought he’d come right but he just ran out of time. The medical advice was not to play him. But he should be back at it next week."
