Pirates coach discontent with ambulance during Mako incident: 'Not good enough for PSL'

Orlando Pirates co-coach Fadlu Davids expressed discontent with the on-site ambulance during Tuesday's horrific incident at the Peter Mokaba Stadium where defender Paseka Mako suffered a head injury after colliding with goalkeeper Richard Ofori.

Pirates' DStv Premiership encounter against Baroka FC was already in stoppage time when Ofori attempted to clear the ball, only to collide with team-mate Mako who was approaching in the same direction.

It has since been confirmed by Pirates that Mako suffered a head injury.

90+4’ Concern for Pirates as Mako remains down after a collision with Ofori.

He immediately dropped to the floor following the collision and referee Masixole Bambiso, who was close by, immediately blew his whistle, waving his arm for the medics to get onto the field.

Ofori then checked on his team-mate before yelling for medical attention as well.

Speaking to reporters after the match, Davids bemoaned the professionalism of the on-site ambulance at the stadium, as the driver was nowhere to be found before arriving minutes later.

"The less said about that, the better. Nobody in the ambulance... you have to find where the drivers are," said Davids.

"I don't know whether they are watching the game, but they have to be on call and they have to be ready. There is an emergency. But credit to our medical team, not even 10 seconds and they were on the field, seeing to Mako.

The coach added: "The reaction from the ambulance [was] definitely not good enough for the PSL standard."
