Philippe Clement warned over Celtic 'slap in the face' as Rangers fans issued brutal reality check by Barry Ferguson

Concerned Barry Ferguson has urged Philippe Clement and the Rangers stars to keep their feet on the ground with title hype reaching fever pitch.

Mohamed Diomande's sizzling strike and a James Tavernier penalty double sealed the three points against St Johstone and moved the Light Blues top of the Scottish Premiership following Celtic's stumble against Kilmarnock on home turf. It sparked wild scenes of celebration in the away end in Perth with Rangers supporters now believing that Clement can lead them to the title this term.

But with tough fixtures against Hearts and Kilmarnock just around the corner, cautious former skipper Ferguson has warned the current stars inside they need to stay grounded or risk slipping up in the run-in. He urged the Belgian boss to maintain his mantra of shutting out the noise and only concentrating on the next game. Ferguson told the Go Radio Football Show: "You don't want to get carried away and get a slap in the face.

"Enjoy it. Enjoy it on the way back but you need to get the blinkers on. Hearts will come and Steven Naismith will fancy his chances coming to Ibrox. They need to keep their feet on the ground.

"I said last week both Rangers and Celtic would win all their games up to April 7. How wrong was I? Celtic drop a couple of points, but then Rangers have a tricky place to go - Kilmarnock.

"That is going to be a tough one for Rangers but they seem like they are in a different place just now. The most important thing is they don't get carried away. They have got there but the hard work is still to be done."
