Philippe Clement reacts to alarming Rangers record with numbers being used ‘in the wrong way’ defence

Philippe Clement was hit by an eyebrow raising Rangers stat bomb live on TV - but insists their poor recent record isn't all it seems.

The Ibrox boss was dealt a serious setback in the title battle with Celtic at the weekend after Ross County downed them 3-2 in Dingwall to hand their rivals the advantage. Rangers now need to win against Dundee in their twice-rearranged game at Dens on Wednesday to keep the heat on and move to within a point of the champions.

It was a formidable start to life at Rangers for Clement but some recent chinks have been appearing in the armour. Rather worryingly from an Ibrox perspective, they've now won just two of their last seven games in all competitions dating back to a 2-1 defeat against Motherwell on home turf in early March. In an interview on Sky Sports, Clement was confronted with that statistic, but was quick to point out it includes that seven-game run includes both Europa League clashes with Benfica - which he argues skews it.

Asked if he was worried by that stat, he said: "No, that's using the stats in the wrong way. That includes two games against Benfica which is a really good team. So it's incorrect information about how the games were played. Of course we were bad on Sunday, I was the first one to say that and the players also. We need to show another face tomorrow."
