It's quickly become apparent Philippe Clement speaks the love language of Rangers and their supporters. And, after being quizzed in Dutch, he insists their recent success is more about them than him.

The Belgian's demands for instant success and cerebral approach to his long-term Ibrox vision has won over fans and pundits alike. And Clement earned instant vindication of his methods with a gutsy 1-0 win over Aberdeen to lift the Viaplay Cup at a sodden Hampden.

Followers of Rangers, bereft of signature days in Mount Florida, revelled in the triumph of a man who remains undefeated in 14 games and has transformed a team on its knees when Michael Beale was mercifully removed from the line of duty after an atrocious start to the season. And Sunday was a first for Clement as he added his first domestic cup to the three consecutive Belgian titles he secured with Genk and Brugge.

Clement did secure Super Cup glory in his homeland and he didn't appear overawed when the stat was relayed to him by a Dutch journalist at his post-match presser. And the 49-year-old – who has a fanbase believing Sunday's win will act as a changing of the guard rather than a singular act of resistance to Celtic's dominance – was keen to lavish praise on everyone bar himself.

Speaking at his post-match press conference, he invited a question from the Dutch-speaking reporter and answered: "I'm not really into it with my own story. We've talked about it before.
