Philippe Clement frees Rangers of uncertainty as dominant Ibrox romp blows Hibs away - 3 talking points

The Rangers reign of Philippe Clement got off to a storming start as the rejuvenated Ibrox side took care of Hibs 4-0 with arguably their best display of the season.

A double from Abdallah Sima and goals from Nico Raskin and Cyriel Dessers were enough to secure a 4-0 win that could have been a far greater margin. And Clement will have seen more than enough to suggest that he has something to work with among the squad he has inherited from Michael Beale.

The Belgian was given a rousing welcome by the Ibrox faithful but the new manager had his hands tied in terms of team selection due to injuries, although the addition of Ryan Jack, Todd Cantwell and mask-wearing Danilo to the bench gave him more options than Steven Davis had in Rangers’ last outing at Paisley. That, of course, resulted in a 3-0 and Clement made only three changes in the shape of Dessers returning for Zak Lovelace, Scott Wright replacing Jose Cifuentes and Sam Lammers coming in for Kemar Roofe.

Much of the pre-match interest centered on where the players who had looked rudderless under Michael Beale would be deployed and a look at the Hibs team sheet showed that the Edinburgh side had travelled meaning business and full of attacking intent with Martin Boyle and Elie Youan providing width and Dylan Vente and Adam Le Fondre offering a goal threat through the middle.

They had defending to do early on, though, as Rangers started at a fast pace, pressing high and getting the ball forward a lot quicker than of late. They suffered a blow in just the 10th minute, though, when Borna Barisic suffered a thigh injury and was replaced by Ridvan Yilmaz.
