Phil Neville takes Ralf Rangnick on over ‘six years’ claim, as Man Utd masterplan laid out

Phil Neville has insisted that it may not take six years to turn Manchester United around, as interim manager Ralf Rangnick has suggested.

The Red Devils are facing a crucial new chapter following several years of struggles on and off the pitch. Spells with the likes of David Moyes and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer ultimately failed to restore the club to their heights. As such, there is a sense that United have to get their next decision right.

Ajax boss Erik ten Hag is the manager they have chosen to step into the dugout next. The 52-year-old will arrive with an exciting reputation but has a big task on his hands.

Indeed, Rangnick – who replaced Solskjaer in November – has showed honesty with his thoughts on the situation. He urged United to accept that quadruple-chasing Liverpool are “six years” ahead of the Red Devils.

According to Inter Miami boss Neville, though, Man Utd can turn their situation round “very quickly”.

The 45-year-old told Sky Sports: “There obviously needs to be big changes in the whole of the club, but what I would say is that could change very quickly.

“I’ve heard people say five or six years. It can change within 12 or 18 months if you pick the right manager, the right players, and if you get the structure around the club right, that can change very quickly.

“All it will take is just two or three new signings, gain some confidence, gain some momentum. You look how quickly it took Jurgen Klopp to turn it around at Liverpool – two or three seasons it took.”

As for who Man Utd could sign, they are reportedly after a new centre-back, a midfielder and a striker.
