Phil Neville explains Inter Miami plan ahead of crunch David Beckham talks

Inter Miami were knocked out of the playoffs by New York City FC on Monday night. The home side scored three goals with no reply and with that Phil Neville's side were sent home.

It was a shock to many fans that they made it this far; Miami started the season poorly but turned it around in the second half of the campaign to secure a sixth-placed finish. However, the fans will be disappointed to get knocked out now they made it into the playoffs.

Head coach and former Manchester United defender Neville has struck an optimistic tone about the future of the club. He told the media after the game about his ambitions: "We want to go deep into the play-offs. It's a baby step forward but I think we have changed the way people look at Inter Miami. That was important."

While Neville is expected to be in charge next season, as things stand his future is not yet clear. The 45-year-old's contract expires at the end of the season alongside the rest of his coaching staff so it is up to co-owner and ex-United colleague David Beckham to decide what the future of his football club looks like.

Neville will be desperate to stay in Florida given that his son Harvey has now made a breakthrough into the first team and he has settled in the area. Given the backing Miami has from both Beckham and co-owner Jose Mas, he will also be keen to stay to continue the project he has started at the club.

Given the club is still in it's fledging years, having played its first fixture in 2020, fans would assume that getting to the playoffs was a reasonable expectation for the hierarchy this season, meaning that there is every reason that Neville should keep his job. But the
