Phil Foden teased by Man City teammate before spectacular FA Cup assist

Jack Grealish was giving Phil Foden stick about not being assisted by his Manchester City teammates hours before they combined at Peterborough.

The pair knew each other from England camps before Grealish joined the Blues from Aston Villa last summer, and have continued their friendship this season. They sat next to each other on the coach to Peterborough, watching videos of Lionel Messi's passing on the way down.

And Grealish, who has been short of goals in a City shirt, did not miss the chance to remind Foden that none of the goals he has scored this season have been supplied by the 21-year-old. That changed on Tuesday night with a long pass from Foden that drew comparisons to Messi brought down by Grealish and clinically finished to put the FA Cup tie against the Championship side to bed.

As well as being happy with his goal, Grealish was delighted with the link-up that more than answered his teasing question to Foden before they went out onto the pitch.

“I love playing with Phil. I don’t think there is any debate about me and Phil," he said. "We are so close off the pitch. We have a great connection.

"I was saying to him before the game ‘is there any chance of you assisting me or what?’. Luckily it happened tonight. Phil is a brilliant player and I love playing with him. I think he is one of the best youngsters in the world and I think it is only the start for him.”
