Phil Foden’s incredible talent aged 14 during Man City v Club Brugge game

When Erling Haaland recently arrived at Manchester City, he was informed that people at the Etihad Stadium believe Phil Foden could go on to become the club’s greatest ever player.

A product of City’s youth academy, it was clear from a young age that Foden possessed extraordinary talent.

In July 2019, Pep Guardiola even went as far as to describe Foden as “the most talented player” he has ever seen.

“He has everything to become one of the best players,” Guardiola said of Foden, who was 19 at the time.

“I have said many times in press conferences, but maybe not said it in front of him, Phil is the most, most, most talented player I have ever seen in my career as a manager.

“His only problem is sometimes his manager doesn’t put him in the starting XI. Hopefully in the future that can improve.”

Fast-forward three years and Foden is now one of City’s key attacking players.

But rewind five years to when Foden was 14 and there’s a brilliant three-minute video of the Stockport-born magician bossing it against Belgian side Club Brugge in a youth tournament.

Foden’s flawless first touch, speed of thought, awareness and all the other qualities that make him a world-class footballer were all evident, even back then.

Unsurprisingly, he looked head and shoulders above every other player on the pitch.
