Phil Foden makes Man City transfer admission and discusses Pep Guardiola contract situation

Phil Foden never considered leaving Manchester City on loan, despite external calls for him to get valuable experience away from the Etihad in recent years.

Foden has been part of the City senior set-up for seven seasons now, picking up his sixth Premier League title last weekend to continue his incredible record of trophy wins. The forward turns 24 next week, by which time he could have won his 18th career trophy if City win the FA Cup at Wembley.

This season, the Premier League Player of the Year has stepped up to be the main man for City, with his brace on the final day firing his side to the title ahead of Arsenal. In all competitions, he has 27 goals and 11 assists, with only Erling Haaland recording more goal contributions for City.

There is no doubt that Foden is undroppable in City's line-up these days, but he has had to wait patiently for his opportunities in recent seasons. As he broke into the first team, Pep Guardiola had to resist calls for the Stockport-born attacker to be sent out on loan to play regularly - something Foden now says he wouldn't have wanted.

"I never ever had an intention of leaving. I think I believed in what the manager was saying," Foden told BBC Sport. "I believed in the process. When I wasn't playing, I knew there was better players in front of me. And I knew the more I grew up and the longer time that went, there'd be opportunity for me."
