Phil Foden makes injury admission as Pep Guardiola gives Kevin De Bruyne advice on Man City form

Here are your Manchester City evening headlines on Monday, March 6.

Phil Foden is hoping a few days of rest can help his foot as he continues to battle a niggling problem.

The Manchester City star exacerbated a problem in his foot in the Manchester derby back in January, and while he tried to play on with it he realised he had to ask for time off from playing or training for it to heal. Foden has had to bide his time after missing three games completely through injury while Jack Grealish and Riyad Mahrez starred for the team, but four goals in the last week have shot the 22-year-old back into Pep Guardiola's first-team plans.

A second man-of-the-match performance of the week in the 2-0 win over Newcastle helped the team to their third consecutive victory, although also saw the player suffer more damage to his foot. The last few months have taught Foden better how to manage an issue that has taken time to learn how best to treat it.

Pep Guardiola is not concerned with Kevin De Bruyne's mini drop in standards, telling his talisman to go back to basics.

De Bruyne missed two games through illness and needed a personal word from the manager at half time on his City return at Bristol City for being 'too passive'. After that, Guardiola said he was back to the 'Kevin we know', and he scored a beautiful curling effort from 25 yards at Ashton Gate.

However, De Bruyne's levels dipped again in the Premier League clash with Newcastle, and the Belgian was guilty of losing the ball on a number of occasions before being replaced by Bernardo Silva around the hour mark.
