Phil Foden has two games to decide what Man City need to do in transfer window

Manchester City are not done in the transfer market.

Pep Guardiola's side have moved to strengthen their defence with Josko Gvardiol and replenish the midfield after Ilkay Gundogan's exit. Kevin de Bruyne's injury has thrown a spanner in the works.

The Etihad boss delivered a more bleak prognosis on Friday, with the Belgian potentially out until 2024. It's a major setback for player and club and one which could force City into the market.

City have a track record of not paying over the odds for transfer targets, as Guardiola stressed this week. However, with rivals knowing the situation the Blues find themselves in, their negotiating hand has been weakened.

"He is a very important player and it is not one or two weeks," Guardiola said of De Bruyne. "It's four or five months, he's 32 years old and he needs to be physical because of the way he plays physically.

"So we have to reflect a bit on the squad, and think about what we have to do but we have to control but we are not the only ones spending a lot of money in the last few years.

"Those players [like De Bruyne] are not replaceable. When we go to the market, it is not to replace him as he will be back in January or February and will be with us next season. It is not copy and paste to replace Kevin De Bruyne but maybe we will need, we will see. We're talking and we will see what happens.

"When people say just Manchester City and Pep Guardiola buy players. I didn’t know I had a lot of money in my pocket to buy all the players I have! We have to see what happens in the market and if we can do it and to pay what we believe is fair."
