PGA cult hero intimates Bryson DeChambeau may have broken rules during thrilling US Open win

A leading caddie on the USPGA tour urged Bryson DeChambeau's US Open rivals to request a check over his equipment before walking back his claim after sparking a social media storm.

Kip Henley – a veteran bagman for a number of years – took to social media to raise fears over the golf equipment being used by DeChambeau with all players given strict guidelines for tour events. And Henley stated the US Open winner's putter would be where he'd start. DeChambeau is toasting a stunning win as he outlasted Rory McIlroy to lift his second major and to leave the Irishman reeling as he remains majorless since 2013.

Henley, posting on X, formerly Twitter, with an attached photo of his TV, said: "If I’m a player around the lead in the US Open, I would ask the USGA to check the specs on this putter. The shaft has to lean away from the head at least 10 degrees. It sure looks vertical. Not being a d*** or hate him at all, but it is a rule."

DeChambeau – who previously raised eyebrows when he debuted 3D-printed irons at The Masters – has a clutch of loyal backers on social media and Henley was met with a fierce backlash. And that's when the caddie claimed he was merely winding up golf lovers.

Henley responded: "Jesus Mary and Joseph, you people have lost your minds! Don’t you think I would understand that Bryson's equipment has been inspected 1,000 times, and his putter would certainly be conforming? It was a tongue-in-cheek tweet that I knew would rile some of you up. This is the easiest pot I ever stirred."
