Peter Wright wins PDC World Championship as Scotsman edges Michael Smith in Ally Pally thriller

Scotland's Peter Wright got the better of a thrilling clash against Michael Smith to become world champion for the second time..

The world number two went into the World Darts Championship Final full of confidence, and raced into a 2-0 lead, taking advantage of some big misses by Smith.

The Bully converted just two of 20 double attempts and the one leg he did win in the first set took 28 darts as he was stuck in the madhouse.

Wright upped his game in the second set and put an early grip on the Sid Waddell Trophy by producing back-to-back 148 and 124 finishes.

Smith responded, though, and finally found his radar as a 167 checkout allowed him to break Wright's throw on the way to taking the third set.

He then took the fourth set to make it 2-2, but was grateful for Wright missing two doubles in the deciding leg.

It was tit-for-tat at the Ally Pally, with the Englishman taking a 5-3 lead at one point.

The man from Livingston was not to be denied though, with Wright winning nine of the last 10 legs to become a double world champion.

The 51-year-old got the job done with a double-16 finish to break Smith's heart.

See how the action unfolded on a thrilling night of darts.

Steven Lawless reacts as Peter Wright silences the Ally Pally crowd...

Peter Wright is world champion!

They’ll be dancing on the streets of Livingston, and just think what it means to the middle aged men with questionable fashion choices community.

They can hold their combover a little higher tomorrow, maybe even buy those cowboy boots they’ve been eyeing.

This win is for them as much as it is for Wright, who overcomes a hostile crowd to take the title.

Scotland beat England everywhere they go…

Wright throws first, in the fourth as he goes for the title.
