Peter Schmeichel makes Man City Premier League title prediction as he gives Arsenal and Liverpool verdict

Former Manchester City goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel believes neither Arsenal nor Liverpool will be able to challenge the Blues in the Premier League.

Pep Guardiola's men have shown no signs of a hangover after winning the Treble last season. Despite defeat in the Community Shield, City have won all of their Premier League matches so far, claimed the UEFA Super Cup for the first time and started their defence of the Champions League in style with a 3-1 victory over Crvena Zvezda on Tuesday night.

In recent years, City have faced challenges to their dominance from both the Gunners and the Reds but speaking to Premier League Productions, the Dane is adamant neither will come close to the Blues this year. He explained: "I don’t think they can.

"If there is a team, then it might be Arsenal, but that’s a big ‘might’. I don’t think anyone can stay with Manchester City.

"We are just looking at that line-up. You look at their back four. I mean, you have to compete with that. It’s [Kyle] Walker, [Ruben] Dias, [Manuel] Akanji and [Josko] Gvardiol. How can you compete with that?

"You can’t match it and Liverpool, for sure, can’t match it. I think they are very vulnerable at the back."

City will not have to wait long to test themselves against one of their rivals for Premier League glory. On October 8, the Blues travel to Arsenal.

Before then, City must negotiate the task of Nottingham Forest this Saturday at the Etihad Stadium before facing Newcastle United in the third round of the Carabao Cup.
