Peter Leven in Aberdeen next manager admission as he gives Dons board what they want

Peter Leven wants to be Aberdeen manager - but not right now.

The first-team coach has been put in interim charge of the Dons again and will take them Wednesday night's game at Dundee and the weekend trip to Motherwell. Leven has ambitions to become a boss in his own right but knows at this stage it wouldn’t be right for him and the Pittodrie board also want to go down the road of a more experienced appointment.

He has stepped in to give the Aberdeen hierarchy time to step up their interview process this week, as they look for a new long-term manager. Leven confirmed: “One day, I would like to be manager but I know the club is looking for somebody with more experience. I am gaining a lot of experience now and one day I would like to be a manager. Anybody would love to be a manager at Aberdeen.

“They are a massive club but I know at the moment I know they are going through a process where they are looking for somebody with experience, which is fine. I have always said I will step up as interim whenever the club needs me.”

Aberdeen started talks with candidates on Tuesday and they are expected to go on for at least the next 48 hours. There are a couple of overseas candidates on the shortlist along with others with others with British experience. It is expected Leven will remain as part of any new incoming coaching team. The former Kilmarnock assistant manager, though, is taking nothing for granted and wants to try to lead the team to two wins against Dundee and Motherwell before the international break.
