Marcus Rashford was not spotted travelling down to London with his teammates on Wednesday ahead of the clash with Tottenham Hotspur the following day.
Rashford admitted on Tuesday he was ready for "a new challenge and the next steps" away from United, just days after being left out of the squad that beat Manchester City in the derby.
Rashford's future is bound to dominate the back pages ahead of the January transfer window, so here's a look at what pundits have had to say on the matter.
“I always like to think there’s a way back,” Neville told Sky Sports before Rashford's interview with Henry Winter. “Players that I played with that, to be fair, had a lot better form and a lot better careers, were left out in the stands at times. Famous players, who were quite openly thrown into the stands and it was big news, and there was a lot made of it.
“I don’t actually mind what he said, although it’s a bit long, but it’s spot on," Keane told the Stick to Football podcast.
“Sometimes a deal just works for everybody, it’s been going on for a year or two now, there’s obviously a bit of talent there and he’s been at the club since he was a kid. A change would probably do him a world of good, for him and his team and family to go abroad.”
