Perthshire youngsters enjoy memorable matchday experience with Edinburgh Rugby

Rising stars from Perthshire Rugby Club’s minis section are still smiling after enjoying a memorable experience in the capital.

Young players from the under-10s, under-11s and under-12s visited the Hive Stadium last Friday evening to watch Edinburgh’s pre-season friendly against Bath.

But it was not purely a viewing experience for the excitable group from the North Inch - there was a special treat in store.

Shire’s delighted youngsters were given the opportunity to be the guard of honour for both teams as they walked out onto the field of play.

Yvonne Petrie, head of the minis section at Perthshire, this week told the PA: “What an experience and atmosphere for each and every one of those players - they loved it.”

After an exciting first half of rugby - where they watched Edinburgh storm into the lead - another treat was in store.

The Shire young teams were then invited to play on the main stage at half-time. They excitedly got organised and took to the field where they demonstrated their impressive skills.

“We as coaches and parents were so proud of each and every one of them, they played some outstanding rugby and demonstrated all of the club values,” Yvonne said.

“We then returned to our seats where the chatter afterwards was amazing - children making big plans for their futures in the game.

“Here is hoping we will see a few Perthshire boys and girls in the main squads in the near future.”

Yvonne added: “Huge thank you to Edinburgh Rugby and the fans for giving our teams a night to remember.

“This feeling of inclusion and sportsmanship is such a huge part of the sport we love and long may it continue.

“Each and every player gained new confidence and skills by being offered this opportunity and here is to many more.”
